The Kleine Kinzig Dam
The Kleine Kinzig dam (Kleine-Kinzig-Talsperre) is a dam in Reinerzau near Freudenstadt in the Black Forest (Baden-Württemberg) that was put into operation in 1985. It is used to supply drinking water, for flood protection, to raise low water levels and to generate electricity from hydropower. The Kleine Kinzig is dammed; the dam belongs to the Kleine Kinzig special-purpose association.
The dam is a rockfill dam with an asphalt concrete inner seal (bituminous core seal). The granite and red sandstone dam was filled from May 1981 to October 1982. The initial damming lasted from December 13, 1982 to June 1984.
The spillway is housed in a tower with a circular overflow in the reservoir, which is adjoined by a tunnel. The installed capacity of the power station is 580 kilowatts. The dam supplies between 3 and 8 million cubic meters of drinking water every year.
The reservoir is around 3 kilometers long, 450 meters wide and has a maximum depth of 60 meters.
The reservoir has a pre-dam with a 15-meter-high dam made of slope debris.
